This green pea and kale spread is one of my favorite savory breakfast options. It is super quick, inexpensive and very-very delicious! I absolutely adore the green color!
You know those hangover mornings, when you really wanna have something fancy, nutritious and tasty for breakfast, but you are also sure you can’t stand in your kitchen longer than 5 minutes. These mornings I always crave something savory and filling. A slice of toast or bread is a great option, but I don’t think a buttered one would really help me, so I go for the green heroes, like avocado, broccoli, spinach or beans. And of course kale and peas. Absolutely heavenly combination!
You can use fresh or frozen peas for this recipe, both great. I always have a bag of frozen peas in my freezer, I love how quick you can make something amazing with them. Pestos, spreads, soups, salads…and hangover breakfasts!! Yeah!
PrintGreen Pea and Kale Spread
- Total Time: 10 mins
- Yield: a bowl
Ingredients
- 2 cups of frozen green peas
- 2 cups of chopped kale
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1 tsp olive oil
- salt, pepper, chili
Instructions
- Add the olive oil and green peas to a frying pan and cook for about 3-5 minutes, so the peas are defrosted but not over cooked.
- Add the chopped kale, the crushed garlic and seasoning and cook for about one more minute.
- Put everything in a food processor or use a hand held blender and blend the vegetables together. I like to keep it a bit rustic, but you can blend it smooth too. Enjoy!

Ooooh, peas! Love them, but have never made a pesto or spread with them. I am excited to try this; it sounds delicious! The color is so vibrant and speaks to it’s nourishment. I always have peas in my freezer too. They are one of the few veggies I keep in the freezer because they hold up so well and are especially appreciated this time of year. Thank you, Evi, for a beautiful and healthful recipe!

Thank you, Traci!
You have to try out a pesto with green peas too! They are great with any nuts, with or without cheese. My favorite is one with lime, pine nuts and a lots of mint. So refreshing 🙂
