Vegan Chocolate Salami with nuts and dried fruits.
Vegan Chocolate Salami is made with broken biscuits, dried figs, prunes, toasted walnuts and hazelnuts, all covered in a rum flavored dark chocolate mix. It’s a funny looking and very delicious Christmas dessert, that also makes a great DIY gift for the holidays.
Did you think that you won’t find a salami recipe here, just because it’s a vegan blog? Wrong! I present you my Vegan Chocolate Salami!
Okay, it’s not made of meat and you might wanna skip putting this on bread, but it looks creepily similar to a real salami, so it’s a fun little idea to make.
Chocolate Salami is an Italian dessert, that’s also very popular in Hungary. Especially around this time of the year, because it has all the wonderful Christmas flavors. It’s a very simple and customizable no-bake dessert, so it’s a totally foolproof recipe for all the non-bakers like me.
You’ll find all kind of goodness in this Vegan Chocolate Salami. For the base I used some good ol’ store-brought vegan shortbread biscuits, broken into smaller pieces. You can use any biscuits you like, GF, homemade, whole wheat, digestive, or my personal favorite: speculaas.
Then come some toasted nuts, in my case hazelnuts and walnuts. You can also use pistachio, brazil nuts, pecans, almonds, cashews or a mix of those. I added some prunes and dried figs for extra sweetness as well, but any other dried fruits would work fine here.
I spiced mine with rum, vanilla, and gingerbread spice. If you can’t get gingerbread spice just use some cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, anise, cloves and allspice. Or none, since it’s all totally optional, so feel free to flavor your chocolate salami however you like it.
Once you combined all your base ingredients melt some chocolate, milk, and sugar together, and mix everything well together. Roll the mix into 2 salamis (yes, they will look exactly like a massive dog poop), then place in the fridge until it sets. To get that true salami look roll the hardened salami into powdered sugar before slicing.
If you try this recipe, let me know! I would highly appreciate if you could leave a comment and rate it. Also don’t forget to take a picture and tag it on Instagram (use the hashtag #greenevi) or post it on Facebook! I love seeing what you come up with! ♥︎
PrintVegan Chocolate Salami
- Total Time: 15 minutes
- Yield: 2 salamis 1x
Ingredients
200 g/7 oz biscuits of your choice (see notes above)
1/4 cup of prunes, chopped
1/4 cup of dried figs, chopped
1/3 cup of toasted walnuts, chopped
1/3 cup of toasted hazelnuts, chopped
2 tbsp cocoa or cacao powder
2 tsp gingerbread spice
100 g/3.5 oz dark chocolate
4 tbsp of plant milk
40 ml/1.3 oz rum
40 g/1.4 oz coconut sugar
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
To serve:
powdered sugar
Instructions
- Place 1/4 of the biscuits in a food processor, and pulse a few times, until you get a very fine, flour-like consistency. Break the rest of the biscuits into small pieces with your hands. Add biscuits to a mixing bowl.
- Add chopped prunes, figs, walnuts, hazelnuts, cocoa powder, and gingerbread spice to the biscuits, and mix everything well together.
- Melt chocolate over low heat using a double broiler. Once melted, add milk, rum, sugar, and vanilla extract. Stir a few times around for a few seconds, until sugar melts.
- Pour melted chocolate over the biscuit mixture. Using a spoon mix everything well together.
- Place mixture on a parchment paper, and shape it into two small logs. Be careful not to hurt yourself with the hot mix. Roll up the paper tight, and wrap the ends like candy. Place in the fridge for a few hours to harden.
- To serve remove the parchment paper, and dust the salami with powdered sugar. Enjoy!

Oh really? How cool! I haven’t seen such sweet salamis for ages, so somehow I assumed they are not very well known, but it turns out they are actually super popular all around the world ❤️

Your post reminded me of an aunt of mine who used to make something similar and used to call it a no bake cake. I know how delicious this!
